This is my go-to Black Bean Burger Recipe
It comes from the cookbook Be a Plant-Based Women Warrior
Here is what you will need:
15 ounce can of black beans drained and rinsed
1/2 of an onion, chopped (give or take)
1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
2 Tablespoons flaxseed meal. Just buy the flaxseeds and grind those bad boys up in a coffee grinder
3 Tablespoons of your favorite salsa
1. Drop everything in a big bowl
2. Mix and squish with your hands
3. The mixture should be moist but not wet. Add oats if too wet. Add Salsa if too dry
4. Shape into patties with your hands. Let them sit in the pan or on a plate for about 10 minutes. They will hold together better. You can put them in the fridge for a few hours. Even better!
5. In a large nonstick pan over medium heat, cook the patties for 5 minutes without turning, until browned. By the way, no oil is needed. Just the burgers and nonstick pan. Flip the burgers with a spatula and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes until the burgers are firm and brown.
6. Eat the burgers. On a bun with your favorite burger toppings. In a lettuce wrap. Naked on a plate. However you like!
This recipe makes about 5 burgers.
ENJOY!
